Trauma isn’t just about what happened to you. It’s also about what didn’t happen that should have. We all experience difficult events, but trauma arises when something happens that we didn’t have the internal resources to manage at the time. It can stem from a single incident, like a car accident or an assault, or it can develop over years of experiences such as abuse, neglect, or emotional absence from caregivers.
Trauma doesn’t just live in memories, it’s stored in the body. You may experience symptoms like anxiety, numbness, hypervigilance, panic attacks, flashbacks, or feeling disconnected from yourself. Sometimes, it shows up in less obvious ways: perfectionism, people-pleasing, avoidance - patterns that once protected you but now keep you stuck.
Trauma affects us, our relationships, and how we see ourselves and the world.
Because trauma lives in the body, healing requires more than just talking about it or using cognitive therapies. At EFCP we specialize in trauma therapy, using approaches like EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and other trauma-informed, person-centred methods. Our work is about helping you reconnect with yourself, with self-compassion and clarity. Healing is possible, and you don’t have to do it alone. We’re here to help you find calm, connection, and a path forward.
