Therapy isn't one size fits all. You need to find what and WHO works for you. Studies shows that the biggest factors in successful therapy outcome comes from YOU (therapy isn't something done to you - you must be an active participant) and from finding a therapist that you like to work with. Ask yourself if you're ready to do the work. And ask us questions to ensure that we're a good fit.
We're all doing the best that we can do - really, we are! Sometimes though, we fall into familiar patterns that might be dysfunctional and not serving us well. Many times we don't even realize that this is happening. Therapy can help you bring awareness to these patterns and with finding ways to change them so that you feel calmer and more fulfilled.
We like to categorize feelings into "good" ones and "bad" ones, and many times we spend a lot of energy to ensure that we don't feel the "bad". Brene Brown says "We cannot selectively numb emotions. When we numb the painful emotions, we also numb the positive emotions." Therapy can help you connect to the full spectrum of feelings as you learn ways to manage your emotions so that you feel healthier and more engaged in your life.
Our world can function in a way that makes us feel not so good about ourselves. Sometimes we spend a lot of time trying to fit in or to please others, and it can be hard to drown out the noise of the outer world so we can hear our inner truth. Therapy offers you a quiet, confidential space to help you explore your inner truth and what that means to how you want to live your life.
The truth will set you free! It truly will ... but first IT WILL (likely) PISS YOU OFF! Self-awareness is the key to more fulfilling relationships with your child, your significant other, your family, and most importantly YOURSELF! The more you know about yourself, the more you participate in healthy relating.
Elizabeth Gilbert said "Embrace the glorious mess that you are." We're human and we need to give ourselves a break so that we can discover what brings us joy and harmony in life. YOU ARE NOT BROKEN. Focusing on what brings you pleasure, meaning, and positive experiences is the key to emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being.
The healing power of nature should not be underestimated. Connect to the natural world often. Nature's rhythms line up to our natural inner rhythms, which gets disrupted by stress. So don't be surprised if part of your therapy involves walks in the park, gardening, hugging trees, etc!
