Therapy for Healthcare Professionals and First Responders

Supporting Healthcare Professionals

Working in healthcare means carrying immense physical and emotional demands, often in an underfunded, high-pressure system. The increasing need for services, compounded by staffing shortages and systemic barriers, has left many healthcare professionals feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, or stuck. COVID-19 only intensified these challenges, pushing many to the brink of burnout.

Beyond the daily stress, professionals may notice themselves becoming triggered by certain patients, families, or colleagues. Moral injury - the distress of being unable to provide care in the way you know is needed - is common. Therapy can help you process these experiences, manage workplace challenges, and reconnect with your sense of purpose without sacrificing your well-being.

Supporting First Responders

First responders routinely override their nervous systems, stepping into danger while suppressing fear, exhaustion, and emotional pain. The high-stakes nature of the job - witnessing trauma, making split-second decisions, and carrying the weight of life-or-death situations - takes a toll. Rates of PTSD, anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation are significantly higher in first responders compared to the general population. Moral injury, stress, and burnout are common, yet the culture within these professions often stigmatizes seeking mental health support. Many feel unsupported by colleagues or management, leaving them isolated in their struggles.

Therapy offers a space to process the cumulative impact of the job, manage trauma responses, and develop healthier coping strategies. Whether dealing with substance use, anger, or chronic stress, we provide specialized support. Marta, in particular, has extensive experience working with first responders seeking assistance through the WSIB program, and Amy provides EMDR therapy to assist with processing difficult or traumatic events.
