EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps people process and heal from distressing memories, trauma, and deeply held negative beliefs. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements or tapping, to activate the brain’s natural ability to process and integrate painful experiences. When trauma occurs, the nervous system can become stuck, leaving distressing memories unresolved. EMDR helps unlock these memories so they no longer carry the same emotional intensity, allowing for healing and new perspectives.
This therapy is highly effective for a wide range of challenges, including trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, phobias, eating disorders, and chronic stress. Many people who have tried other forms of therapy without success find EMDR to be a powerful approach in helping them move forward. By working through distressing memories in a structured and safe way, clients often experience relief from symptoms and a greater sense of control over their emotions and reactions.
At Evans Family Counselling & Psychotherapy, both Amy and Marta are trained in EMDR and use it to support clients in their healing process. Whether you are struggling with the effects of a single traumatic event or the impact of long-term stress, EMDR can help you break free from unhelpful patterns and move toward a more grounded and resilient sense of self.
