EFCP firmly supports the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, affirming trans rights and inclusion
In 2024, it is well documented that members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community face "higher rates of depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive and phobic disorders, suicidality, self-harm, and substance use" (CAMH Ontario, 2024). It is also recognized that some of these risks are connected to discrimination and social determinants of health. If you identify as gender and/or sexually diverse and have experienced suffering and marginalization as a result of expressing your true self, we are here to help support you.
Therapists at EFCP support and celebrate equity, diversity and inclusion of all persons. Adopting a decolonizing, anti-oppressive, feminist, and trauma-informed framework, we stand as allies of gender and sexual diversity. Heather, herself, identifies as a queer, cis-gender woman and both she and Marta work to assist clients in processing their experiences from working through internalized homo/transphobia and the coming out journey right to living with integrity as their true Self. At EFCP, we do this by creating space for hurt parts within to be seen and heard so that the true Self can begin and continue healing.
Religious/spiritual trauma
Addressing religious/spiritual trauma in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community
If you are someone who identifies as part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, religion and spirituality can be tricky to navigate. For some, religion/spirituality can be a source of trauma. If you identify as a member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and have been hurt or worse, traumatized, by a religious/spiritual community, we can help you to heal.
This is an area of specialty for Heather. In a safe space, Heather will work with you to help you process religious/spiritual trauma, deconstructing harmful religious beliefs or teachings (and reconstructing new beliefs, if desired).
