Now accepting new clients for in person, virtual, & nature-based therapy appointments
I am a Registered Psychotherapist (CRPO) and a member of the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC), with a Masters degree from Laurier University.
After completing my Masters degree, I began my training in Psycho-Spiritual Care at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. My years of experience include working with youth, adults and seniors in the areas of mental illness, crisis intervention, substance use, anxiety, grief, trauma, LGBT2SQ+, and spirituality. Throughout the pandemic, I provided care as a Registered Psychotherapist through New Moon Counselling and the Community Counselling Centre of London. During this time I was also providing care as a Chaplain, first at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and then at Hamilton Health Sciences.
I have a strong focus on mental health support, including comorbidity. I am also a strong proponent for integrating nature exposure into the therapy process.
I hold a Masters in Theology, with a focus on Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy. This program is recognized by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
Much of my initial training was focused on using modalities such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Experiencing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I am committed to ongoing learning and growth in my practice, and believe that continued learning is important for any practitioner in this field of work.
People deserve to feel heard and valued, especially when facing the storms of life, so I work to create a presence that honours this. I use a person-centred, trauma-informed and existential perspective, seeking to honour each person's own unique experiences and to help them to find meaning. With sensitivity, I will help you to explore the impact of influences and beliefs on your challenges, how you interact with the world, and how you cope. I am equally comfortable with clients who want to bring elements of their religion into the therapy process, or if this isn't relevant to you then we will look at how other influences shaped your life.
If you are experiencing questions or distress related to topics such as identity, purpose/meaning, isolation, or spirituality, you will find non-judgmental space to explore your particular challenge(s). Suffering is energy that wants to move and be cared for. It is my goal to create a compassionate, open, and non-judgmental presence in which you can share, process and release your suffering.
It was my own experience with mental illness that led me to the work that I do. In particular, my past therapy experiences lacked any spiritual support so it became my goal to provide for others what was not offered to me. Though not everyone has a defined spirituality, everyone holds beliefs related to their own worldview. It was through my own spiritual development, centred around nature, that I found sobriety, peace and my Self.
As an introverted person, I have always found tranquility in the presence of animals. In a world that emphasizes extroversion, it took me time to embrace my introverted nature. Animals, particularly birds of prey, have helped me to see the utility and beauty of this aspect of myself. Embracing this is critical in understanding and having grace for the ways in which I engage with the world around me.
I am an owner of 3 dogs, 3 birds, and 1 cat. My animal friends have taught me about the movement of emotional energy so it comes as no surprise that I am certified in the Let Animals Lead® method of animal reiki.
